ALBERTSONS Doubles & Rubbermaid

In today's Albertson's ad there are 3 doubles that expire this Tuesday. I took advantage of these and picked up 6 more of the Rubbermaid containers that they have had on sale. I chose the 3 cup containers as they are the most typical size I would use around the house. After coupons and doubles I paid $.54 each for them normally priced at $3.65. I'm going to try and go back this week and pick up a few more. It's so nice to have all matching containers and only pay a fraction of the cost!

I'm glad I COUPON!

Today we have had a small financial blow in our house. The good news/up side is that I because I have been using coupons etc we won't suffer as bad as if I hadn't been. I am very thankful to my sister for showing me the way, I owe her big time. As for our small blow....it will pass and we will move on, and in the end we will all be better people for it!

At first I had thought I'd go for $5000 but I wasn't sure how realistic that would be, remember I haven't been using coupons all that long. I wanted to set my goal so that I knew in 1 year I would be able to accomplish something. Last year by June I had given up on my photography project (1 photo a day for a year) because it was just too much. Anyway, I'm proud to say that I have attained my goal with in the first 3 weeks of the year. Until now I truly did not realize how much I had been saving!  To date.....$1186.08....WAAAAHOO!

  • Pert Plus is on sale for 2/$5 with $2 RR, use the MFR from today's paper for $1.50/1 Pert Plus for Men men, after both the RR and MFR (2) you will get 2 for free. Why do I coupon?!

This afternoon I was talking to my daughter Terra (19) about coupons. She said that she had been thinking about coupons but after reading some of my posts, she thought that I was merely buying things I won't/don't use just to use coupons which in turn costs me more money. I explained to Terra that it was not the case, that I am using coupons to get items that I want and not have to pay much if anything for them.  I also told her that coupons are the reason that whenever she has come over to my house I always send her home with items that she needs at her place. By using coupons I am able to help my daughter out when she needs help and not break my bank.

It later came to me how else I could have explained it to her. Typically, in the past when we were out of soap (yes we would wait till we were out) I would go to the store and pay approx $2.50 for a 3pk of soap. Now, with coupons I am able to purchase 3 bottles of Nivea Body wash, 1 puff scrubber, 2 deodorants and 5 first aid kits to go. I think I'm getting the better deal than a 3pk of Irish Spring!? Terra mentioned that, 'you aren't going to use all those band aids'. I reminded her that Rob (my wonderful hubby) is a coach and the girls that he coaches go through band aids like water. So really, getting them for FREE is a good deal.

Terra was in no way was putting me down about coupons, I guess she was just thinking the way alot of people do, why clip a coupon if I am not going to use the item. Well you never know, would you use that brand/item if it was free? I'm sure not going to be picky about a brand/item if I can get an item for low/no cost. That just puts more money towards other things. Now I know that I will not use diaper coupons (till I'm a grandma of course) so I won't clip those (of course the Coupon Fairy will leave those for others). Yes there are some things I will pass on . I guess what I'm trying to say is that unless you are happy with paying full price for everything, give it a shot and put a little bit of cash back in your pocket.

Frustration....and a Total of $860.58 saved so Far!

Tonight I sat down to total my savings thus far. The last time I did a calculation I was at $761. It appears that I have misplaced a few receipts, including receipts from today (and I got some KILLER deals) and now only have receipts for $860.58. I know that is still a good number/savings, but I still feel a little deflated...

I had everything set up to show you my savings today so that I could post tonight and all I can do is tell you my OOP along with some pictures....I guess that will have to do...Total OOP was $17.08 not bad!!! (Each photo represents a separate purchase)

Store Coupon Policies

This information can always be helpful. There are many times that cashiers/managers are not sure about what they can and cannot accept. Carrying this quick sheet with you should help clear up most questions. Plus it's just good to know what each store will allow.

Rite-Aid
  • Rite-Aid accepts  manufacturer’s coupons found in Rite Aid circulars and in the newspaper, Rite Aid store coupons, also known as “valuable coupons,” that also are found in Rite Aid circulars and Internet coupons (as long as they have a barcode and will scan)
  • 1 Internet coupon can be used per item with a maximum of $5.00 off
  • You can use 1 Internet coupon and 1 manufacturer’s or Rite Aid circular coupon per item
  • For a BOGO sale, up to two coupons can be used against the items being purchased, as long as the net price does not go below zero for the item being purchased. You will still have to pay applicable sales tax.
  • Coupons are to have a valid expiration date, those that are expired or ineligible will be returned to the customer

Walgreens

* Walgreens seems to be known for having an inconsistent coupon policy, so heed with caution.
  • You can use 1 manufacturer’s coupon 1 Walgreens coupon, per item
  • You can use an in-ad coupon or Easy Saver coupon with a regular manufacturer’s coupon
  • Some stores will not accept BOGO coupons with a BOGO sale, some will
  • You will not receive cash back for coupon overages, where the coupon is greater than the amount of the product. Some Walgreens will lower the price of the item so you can use the coupon, others will not accept the coupon period.
Target
  • Target accepts two kinds of coupons: Target-issued and manufacturer-issued
  • You can use 1 Target coupon and 1 manufacturer coupon for the same item, unless specifically prohibited in either coupon
  • You won’t receive cash back if the value of the coupon is greater than the price – it will simply be free.
  • Target does not accept coupons from other retailers, or coupons for products not carried in our stores.
Wal-Mart

Wal-Mart accepts the following types of coupons (see guidelines below):
  • Manufacturer coupons (Cents Off)
  • Free merchandise (or manufacturer’s Buy-One-Get-One-Free) coupons
  • Store coupons
  • Pharmacy (Advertising and Promotional) coupons
  • Internet coupons
  • Soft drink container caps
The following are guidelines and limits:
  • Wal-Mart only accepts coupons for merchandise we sell and only when presented at the time of purchase.
  • Coupons should have an expiration date and be presented within the valid dates. Wal-Mart will not accept expired coupons.
  • Internet coupons should be legible and say “Manufacturer Coupon.” There should be a valid remit address for the manufacturer and a scanable bar code.
  • Only one coupon per item is permitted.
  • Use of 40 or more coupons per transaction will require approval by Customer Service Manager.
Safeway
  • Safeway accepts manufacturer’s coupons, in-ad coupons, and Internet coupons as long as they scan
  • You can also use Cellfire, Shortcuts, and Proctor and Gamble e-coupons at Safeway. These can be used in combination with manufacturer’s coupons
  • Safeway accepts Internet coupons if they scan properly at the register. Printable Coupons are delivered using special software, designed to print a properly rendered barcode and limit the number printed.
  • Safeway will not accept a printable coupons for “FREE product” (i.e., no purchase required). Buy-one-get-one-free coupons and other varieties that have a purchase requirement are acceptable.
  • Safeway will not accept an Internet coupon for more than 50% of a product’s value or more than $5.00. For example, a $2 off coupon will be acceptable for a product that sells for $5 or more, but a $2 off Printable Coupon for a product that sells for $2.25 will not be accepted.

Saturday Deals 1.16.10 ......Approx Savings .... $98.81

Alright, today I didn't have much time to shop due to a dental appointment,  I think I could have done better, but here are my biggest deals of the day. I've also listed my approximate savings because I can't find one of my receipts, the number would be higher if I found it. ANYWAY!!!!!

1st I stopped at Walgreens (because I had a Rx to pick up anyway).
  • I picked up 4 bottles of OUST. Walgreen's had them on sale for BOGO, I had a coupon for BOGO, I can't tell you WHY but you can use these in conjunction with each other and they usually cancel themselves out and they end up being free. In this case they were ringing up at 4.29 and the coupon was up to a 3.99 value, so in the end I paid .15 for each bottle. I'm not gonna complain about that!!!
  • Next there was an in AD coupon for the Betty Crocker Warm Delights @ .99/ea, I had coupons for .50/off, I purchased 6 @.50 = $3. They are typically 2.59 and up!
  • There was a coupon in their monthly book for Bic Soliel disposable razors. Buy 2 pkgs get $3 off. I had a coupon for BOGO also after all coupons I paid $1.50/ea
  • Gillette Fusion shaving gel. This item was $1.47 I had a $1.50/off coupon....FREE!
2nd I stopped at Rite Aid....because they have the best price around for the toilet paper we use.
  • The only item I got outside of the TP was Aveeno Shampoo, this is normally $7.49, it was on sale for $5.99  and I had a MFR for $2.50/off making it $3.49
3rd stop was at Walmart.
  • Scored 2 pkgs of Tuna Creations. They are priced 1.48, I had mfr for $1/1 making them .48ea.
  • Nabisco Animal Crackers were FREE. They are priced at $1, I used a $2/2 coupon making them free! WOOHOO!
  • GE Light Bulbs, I blogged this deal a couple days ago. Light bulbs are priced $1.50 and I had a coupon for $1.50 off....again FREE!
  • Scrubbing Bubbles Automatic Shower Cleaner, I would not usually purchase an item like this prior to using coupons because it would be too expensive to purchase and find that I don't like it. That being said.....this item at Walmart is $12.97 (Walgreens had it for 19.99). There is a online printable coupon for $7 off the starter kit. Rite Aid had a coupon for $3 off, I paired both coupons together (Walmart accepts competitor coupons) and made the price $2.97. I will definitly try this product at this price.
Safeway.....
  • 2 bottles of Gatorade, they are on sale for $1, I had a coupon for .50/off, dbl it and they were FREE!
  • 2 boxes granola bars, in ad coupon for $.99, mfr $1/2 making them .25 each!

Last was actually a purchase I made last night at Bath and Body Works. They have been having a 90% off clearance sale for about a week now. I wasn't able to get over there sooner, but there were still some great items left.
  • 2 Foaming Body Wash Reg price, $12......I paid 1.20 each!
  • Also not pictured (cuz thier on my FEET) an adorable pair of ducky slippers that are sooooo soft and comfy. They were 75% off of $12...I paid $3.

Winco Yogurt Deal

I have to say, I don't shop at Winco much because they do not always accept the coupons that you can print at home. Anyway they do have a good deal on YoPlait Yo Plus Yogurt, if you were able to score the mfr coupon a couple weeks ago.  Yo Plus Yogurt 4 pk is $1.38. Use the $1.00 manufacture coupon and the yogurt is $.38.

Rembrandt Toothpaste FREE~

Albertson's has Rembrandt toothpaste on clearance for 3.99 a tube. I used a $3 online coupon that I found this morning and paired it with an Albertson's double and it was FREE! I was going to post the link to the coupon but it does not look like it is available any longer. This toothpaste runs 7.99 normally.

Let the Competition begin!

So, my sister Jamie and I have decided to have a little wager regarding who will save the most money over the course of the year via couponing. We've only started this last week and so far I have her beat! HAHAHA. It's been alot of fun calling each other with the bargains that we find, sending txt messages of our hauls or the receipts.  I think this is a great way to keep us motivated, though I don't know why anyone wouldn't be motivated to save money!
